Facultians Made North East Proud
 
National level CBSE science exhibition was conducted in Kulachi Hansraj Model School , Ashok Vihar, Delhi during September 26 th and 27 th 2007. The theme of the exhibition was science and technology for sustainable development.

155 schools from various parts of the country participated in the National Level Science exhibition. The selection for the National level was based on regional level science exhibitions in 4 zones where more than 816 schools participated.

Faculty Higher Secondary School, North Guwahati, Assam, represented by Kirti Prakash and Soujanyaa Boruah of XII Sci. guided by their Biotechnology teacher, Mrs. Remya Iyer, secured top position in category of ‘food and agriculture'. Their project was titled “ Transgenic papaya resistant against Papaya Ring Spot Virus ”.

The model exhibited by the students of Faculty got lots of appreciation from Judges as well as CBSE Chairman Mr. Ashok Ganguly. The model was regarded unique as it was an excellent representation of the application of biotechnology for improvement of agriculture. Also, it's the first time that a Biotechnology based project was introduced and the school exhibited a model with direct application of Biotechnology for which the school has excellent infrastructure and facilities. Faculty was the only school from NE region that bagged top position in this National level exhibition. In course of their preparation for the model, children had also done a survey of Papaya cultivation in and around Guwahati.Their main purpose was to create awareness amongst villagers about transgenic crops and how it can revolutionize the papaya cultivation in this region which has a very rich potentiality. The students received certificates of merit and Rs. 3000 prize money from Secretary, Ministry of Education, Govt. of Indi a in presence of Chairman, CBSE and an august gathering.
